Academic Management Series

Philosophy

This series is targeted towards new or "nearly new" APOs, Sessional Administrative Professionals, Associate Deans, Chairs, Directors and Chair-like staff who have less than three (3) years of experience in their role. The Management Series is designed to provide an introduction to the role of an academic administrator and provides expert advice on how to navigate the University of Alberta’s policies and systems.

The series features experienced University administrators presenting on key topics and sharing useful resources. The series includes a two-day intensive quick-start orientation, plus one full day and three half-day workshops throughout the academic year. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all sessions.

Three days Quick Start Orientation:

The Quick Start Orientation is a three day intensive learning experience, intended to provide new and recently appointed Department Chairs, Associate Deans, Chair-like staff and APOs at the U of A with the basics needed to navigate their leadership and administrative roles at the U of A.

Presenters are experienced U of A senior academic leaders covering practical information and tools that will assist participants in fulfilling the responsibilities and accountabilities of their new leadership roles.
