Record of Employment (ROE)

Human Resource Services issues a Record of Employment (ROE) when there is an interruption of earnings for employees in any of the following situations:

  • Pregnancy
  • Injury
  • Illness
  • Adoption Leave
  • Layoff
  • Leave Without Pay
  • Appointment End Dates
  • Termination

The total hours and earnings of insurable employment are recorded on the Record of Employment and submitted electronically to Service Canada in accordance with their reporting requirements.

Service Canada uses the information on the ROE to determine whether a person is eligible to receive EI benefits, what the benefit amount will be, for how long the benefits will be paid.
