Record of Employment (ROE)

Payroll Operations, Human Resource Services issues a Record of Employment (ROE) when there is an interruption of earnings for employees in any of the following situations:

  • Pregnancy
  • Injury
  • Illness
  • Adoption Leave
  • Layoff
  • Leave Without Pay
  • Appointment End Dates

The total hours and earnings of insurable employment for the last 53 consecutive weeks (or less if the employment period of employment is shorter) are recorded on the Record of Employment and sent electronically to Service Canada. This revised process eliminates the need for paper copies.

Hours of work are used by Human Resource Services (HRS) and Skills Development Canada to determine whether or not employees are entitled to Employment Insurance (EI) benefits and for how long.

Employees can view copies of their Record of Employment by visiting the Government of Canada My Service Canada Account.
