Quality and Safety in Family Practice and Primary Care

Since 2013, Quality and Safety in Primary Care has been a mandatory part of the residency curriculum at the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta. In early 2017, changes were made to the curriculum to include more formalized education around Practice Quality Improvement, making it Quality Improvement and Patient Safety in Primary Care.

In addition to the general exposure residents receive in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety in their respective placements and their mandatory Practice Quality Improvement projects, the Department has also developed a formalized program to educate residents in the importance of building a culture of continuous quality improvement and safety.
