The Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) at the U of A is dedicated to raising awareness about the great diversity within family medicine and the benefits of being a general practitioner. We look at the role of family doctors in the context of the community and the health care system. Our goal is to help students recognize the many possibilities that fall under the umbrella of family practice and teach them how to go about becoming a successful family physician. The FMIG is also a great opportunity to meet other students who are interested in family medicine and make connections with residents and physicians who have chosen to practice family medicine. This year we are going to work closely with Alberta College of Family Physicians (ACFP) in a number of activities and initiatives to promote the ACFP and family medicine to our students.
