About the Program
Launched in September 2013, the Alberta Financial Industry Internship Program (AFIIP) promotes hands-on, industry-specific training for Alberta’s post-secondary students; helping them transition to careers in the province’s growing financial industry. The program is designed to raise awareness about career opportunities in the financial industry and assist Alberta’s financial institutions in attracting top talent.
The program centres on the completion of a minimum of two four-month internships in at least two different participating financial institutions. The rotation gives interns the opportunity to experience the business approach and culture of different financial institutions, helping them to develop and define their own career goals. Nine students are currently enrolled in the program.
Participating Financial Institutions
Six financial institutions are currently providing internship opportunities through AFIIP:
The program is further supported by the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation, Calgary Economic Development, and the Government of Alberta.
In addition to their placements, interns also participate in a variety of learning and development activities to build both knowledge and skills. These activities also provide interns with the opportunity to meet and network with financial industry professionals.
The minimum of two mandatory four-month internship rotations can be completed during any semester (fall, winter, spring/summer), depending on the needs of both the students and participating financial institutions.
Students must have successfully completed the first year of a Business or Economics program at an Alberta post-secondary institution.
The application process for the program is online. In addition to completing a survey application, candidates are required to provide the following information:
