Alberta Finance Institute

The Alberta Finance Institute is a joint initiative started in 2008 by the Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo), the University of Alberta School of Business and the University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business to coordinate the organization of joint seminars, scholarships, conference events, and internships for PhD candidates and MBA students.

The Institute is currently undergoing a review with the objective of expanding its initial mandate and including other Alberta organizations. Alongside collaborative research and dissemination of knowledge, the Alberta Finance Institute will also place an emphasis on the training of professionals and various clients in the Alberta financial services industry. Engaging industry partners, students, educators, and financial services professionals through lectures, seminars, or symposium opportunities will further enhance collaboration between the Institute and its stakeholders.

Financing

A not-for-profit organization, the Alberta Finance Institute is funded primarily by the Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo). Additional ad hoc funding is obtained via contributions from the Government of Alberta, the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) and the Calgary Economic Development (CED).

Mission

To foster financial education and research that supports Alberta's financial services industry and higher education, and contributes to the economic development of the province.

The Institute accomplishes its mission by promoting collaboration between Alberta's academic institutions, financial industry, and different levels of government - while advancing opportunities for collaboration with leading experts and institutions from around the world.
