nVison Reports and PeopleSoft Queries

Financial information is available to account holders, financial administrators, researchers, and other project holders to review and verify transactions and assist with financial analysis, planning, and decision making. The following are the reporting tools used for these purposes.

See Available Reports for information about the University's current reports.

nVision Reports

nVision reports are available in the PeopleSoft Financials application and contain summarized financial information that provides users with an overview of their financial activity. nVision report layouts have been created for individual funds, or combinations of funds, and are then customized to reflect the chart of accounts of University units. Once created, units can generate reports as required. nVision reports can be run for both current and prior fiscal years.

nVision Drills

nVision drills are used in conjunction with nVision reports, and allow users to drill from the summary amounts on the nVision reports to more detailed information. The details can be transaction information or chartfield and accounting period breakdowns. Users can run nVision drills on any cell in an nVision report that contains a number (not a formula).

Query

Query is used primarily with the PeopleSoft Financials application and allows users to go directly to the transaction, chartfield, or journal support information. The queries for transactions are similar to the transaction nVision drills. Whereas the criteria for nVision drills come from the nVision report, criteria for queries are entered by the user and can be very specific, for example a journal ID.

NOTE: nVision reports, nVision drills, and queries all run to Microsoft Excel. Therefore, users can use Excel functionality to further organize and analyze data.

Salary and Benefit Reports

Detailed salary and benefit reports are available in the PeopleSoft Human Capital Management application and allow users to view salary and benefit expenditure details that correspond to payroll journals (journal IDs starting with PY) posted to the PeopleSoft Financials application. These reports also provide payroll budget and commitment information. Users can generate a report by using a combination of searchable fields such as employee, department and pay date range. Additional search features are available with each report. Information about available salary and benefit reports is located in the Operating and Ancillary Reports section of Available Reports.

Note: Salary and benefit information for research and special purpose projects is also available in eTRAC.

Researcher Home Page

The Researcher Home Page provides researchers and project holders with an overview of active projects for the current award period. Users can choose projects by using a combination of searchable fields such as project, project holder, speedcode, department, and project description. Clicking on the project link will generate a Financial Overview - Flash Report for the project. On the Flash Report, clicking on the amount for funds available after expenditures will generate the Expenditure Details report from eTRAC. Information about the Researcher Home Page is located in the Research Reports section of Available Reports.

eTRAC

eTRAC (electronic Tracking of Research Awards and Contracts) enables users to view information from an inquiry panel or to print reports for a project or a number of projects. Users first choose projects by using a combination of searchable fields such as project, project holder, speedcode, department, and project description. Once the projects are identified, users can choose a reporting date range for each eTRAC report. Information about eTRAC reports is located in the Research Reports section of Available Reports.

For further information about research reporting, go to the Managing Research Funding page on the Research Services Office website.

Other

The Research Services Office and Financial Services also generate financial reports to send to sponsors. Reports are sent to project holders for review and signature (the project holder may wish to retain a copy for their records). RSO/FS then send the reports to the sponsor. Information about these reports is located in the Research Reports section of Available Reports.
