Dr. Lee Ekert

Dr. Lee Ekert, orthopaedic surgeon, is an Assistant Clinical Professor affiliated with the University of Alberta, specializing in arthroscopic hip and knee surgery, as well as hip and knee arthroplasty. His clinical interests primarily focus on minimally invasive surgery of the hip including arthroscopic labral repair, labral reconstruction, as well as ligamentum teres, iliopsoas and gluteal pathology; with a special interest in the direct anterior approach to total hip arthroplasty utilizing the HANA table.

He is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan (MD 2005; Orthopaedic Surgery 2010), Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; and has completed subspecialty fellowship training at the University of Alberta in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy, as well as a fellowship in Hip Preservation in Melbourne, Australia.

He is a 2019 recipient of the International Society of Hip Arthroscopy Traveling Fellowship with time in Ottawa, Halifax, Munich, and Johannesburg. Dr. Ekert has a current appointment as orthopaedic surgeon with the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League.

When not at work, he can often be found exploring the countryside on horseback or paddling a lake in his kayak.
