Orthopaedic surgeon at the Grey Nuns Hospital
What is your main area of practice?
I’m an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in the assessment, management of sports related injuries and the surgical treatment for problems of the knee and shoulder
What did you study and where?
My undergraduating training was as a physical therapist. Following this I completed medical school and residency in orthopaedic surgery here in Edmonton. Thereafter I completed an orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. I have recently completed a second knee and shoulder arthroscopy fellowship at the University of Edmonton. I am also nearing completion of a Master’s of Public Health degree as well.
Do you have any specific research interests & publications?
My current research interests include examining factors associated with secondary damage of meniscus and cartilage after an ACL injury. I’m also involved with cartilage restoration research at the University of Alberta. I have written articles and textbook chapters on meniscus surgery, ACL reconstruction (graft options; factors associated with return to play), cartilage restoration and management of acute knee injuries.
Do you work specific days/hours?
I’m at the GSSMC on regular days each month.
Are you affiliated with any teams?
I do consulting work with the Edmonton Oilkings
What is your favourite way to stay active?
Keeping up with my young children keeps me moving the most. I enjoy running, playing hockey, and being in the mountains.
