Do you hold any positions outside the clinic?
I am an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Alberta. I also work at HealthPointe Medical Centre, a multidisciplinary musculoskeletal clinic specializing the treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pain, spine pain and sport medicine. I am an international medical classifier with World Para Taekwondo, a division of the Paralympics.
What is your clinical specialty?
My clinical specialties include diagnosing and treating complex musculoskeletal conditions, interventional spine pain management, performing ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal procedures, and diagnosing and treating peripheral entrapment neuropathies. I have an interest in sports medicine and treating musculoskeletal injuries with the latest regenerative medicine techniques as part of a holistic and interdisciplinary approach.
What did you study and where?
I completed a bachelor of science in kinesiology in 2007 at the University of Alberta, and then I received my medical degree from the University of Alberta in 2011. I completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of British Columbia in 2016. I pursued additional training in neuromuscular medicine, completing a certification to become a CSCN diplomate (EMG) in 2016. I completed advanced training in fluoroscopic (X-ray) guided injections and ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal procedures in 2017.
Do you have any specific research interests and publications?
My academic interests include undergraduate and resident teaching.
Do you have specific days/hours?
Friday afternoons.
What is your favorite way to stay active?
I enjoy playing soccer, squash and running. In the winter I enjoy cross-country and downhill skiing. I take pride in having the gear to do any activity or play any sport, typically at a mediocre level.
