GFC Call for Staff Nominations

Vacancy: One MAPS (Excluded) Representative from staff category (D1.2)

General Faculties Council (GFC), as set out in the Alberta Post-Secondary Learning Act and subject to the authority of the Board of Governors, is responsible for the academic and student affairs of the University. Chaired by the University President, GFC is composed of 159 members, including university Vice-Presidents, Faculty Deans, professors, students, librarians, and academic and non-academic staff.

In accordance with GFC Terms of Reference and associated Principle Documents, GFC requires ONE (1) member of the Management and Professional Staff (Excluded) from staff category (D1.2) to be elected FROM and BY the current MAPS employees.


Selection Criteria:

To be eligible, the MAPS representative to GFC will be:

  • employed at the University of Alberta under the terms and conditions as specified for MAPS employees;
  • should be available at the times listed on the 2020-21 GFC Meeting Schedule. Note: September 21, 2020: GFC Orientation for Members (2:00 to 3:00 pm) and September 28, 2020: GFC Meeting (2:00 to 4:00 pm).

GFC Term of Office:

  • Staff membership terms are normally three years in duration, running July to June. Upon election, a new MAPS term will become effective immediately and end June 30, 2023. 

GFC Nomination and Election Process

Deadline to Apply: Friday, September 4, 2020 at 4:30 PM

ACTION REQUIRED: The following three (3) steps will complete a MAPS application to serve on General Faculties Council.

  1. Nominee must agree to stand for election. (An election, if required, will take place shortly after September 4.)
  2. The (online) Nominee application form can be completed by either the Nominee (by self-nomination) or on behalf of Nominee (by Nominator)
  3. The application requires nominee-specific details including a Statement of Interest (150 words) and a brief bio/professional sketch (150 words) for election ballot purposes.
