Election of MAPS Representative to GFC

GFC Call for Staff Nominations

Vacancy:  One MAPS (Excluded) Representative (staff category D1.2)

General Faculties Council (GFC), as set out in the Alberta Post-Secondary Learning Act, subject to the authority of the Board, is responsible for the academic and student affairs of the University. GFC is Chaired by the University President and is composed of 159 members, including all university Vice-Presidents, all Faculty Deans, professors, students, librarians, and academic and non-academic staff. 

In accordance with new Terms of Reference, GFC is calling for ONE (1) MAPS representative to be elected FROM and BY members of the Management and Professional Staff (Excluded).


Selection Criteria: 

The new GFC composition includes ONE (1) Representative from MAPS (Excluded)/Staff Category (D1.2), that is,

  • only staff members employed at the University under the terms and conditions for MAPS employees are eligible;
  • MAPS member should be available at the times listed on the 2019-20 GFC Meeting Schedule. Note: Sept 23, 2019: Orientation Lunch for New Members (12 Noon-1:30 pm) / GFC meeting (2:00 to 4:00 pm).

GFC Term of Office:

  • GFC Staff Members are normally elected into 3 year terms (July 1 to June 30). Upon election, a new MAPS term will become effective immediately and end June 30, 2022.

GFC Nomination and Election Process

Deadline to Apply:  Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 4:30 PM

The following three (3) steps are required to complete a MAPS application to serve on General Faculties Council.

  1. Nominee must agree to stand for election. (An election, held as needed, will conclude on/before Sept 19, 2019.)
  2. An online application form can be completed by either a Nominator (on behalf of Nominee) or Nominee (by self-nomination)
  3. The application requires nominee-specific details including an expression of interest (150 words) and a brief biographical/professional sketch (150 words) for election ballot purposes.
