Advisory Review Committee for Vice-President (Facilities and Operations)

Call for Academic Staff Nominations


Applications will be accepted until 12:00 pm (Noon) on Friday, October 16, 2020

Andrew Sharman’s term as Vice-President (Facilities and Operations) ends on 31 August 2021, and he has indicated that he would be willing to stand for a second term. President Flanagan has asked that an Advisory Review Committee for the Vice-President (Facilities and Operations) be struck in accordance with the " Vice-Presidential Review Procedure" (in UAPPOL).

In keeping with Appendix A Section 4 (d), General Faculties Council (GFC) is asked to assist in the election of TWO (2) academic staff members to this committee composition, elected by the faculty and the appointed academic staff representatives on GFC.


2020 Advisory Review Committee Meeting Date:

The Committee is scheduled to meet on Friday, November 6, 2020 from 8 am – 5 pm and will occur (virtually) via Zoom.


Committee Selection Criteria 

The advisory review committee composition requires:
Academic staff who are NOT eligible to serve  on this committee are described below:
  • Staff who are on leave. The term ‘leave’ includes: administrative leave, sabbatical, political, medical, parental, childbirth, disability, assisted, secondment.
  • All employees described in Category A1.0/D1.2 who hold the administrative positions of Vice Dean, Associate Dean, Assistant Dean or Department Chair, or positions in conflict of interest such as direct reports, at the time of the initial nomination. For details, please refer to the  Conflict of Interest and Commitment and Institutional Conflict Policy.

Nomination and Election Process

Steps 1.0 and 2.0 are required by the Nominee and  Nominators in order to complete an application by Friday, October 16, 2020 at 12:00 pm.

1.0    "NOMINEE" REQUIREMENTS:  
  • Nominee AGREES to stand for election. If multiple nominees come forward an election will be held by GFC.
  • Nominee is SUPPORTED by five (5) academic staff members  from categories (A1.0/D1.2) whom agree to serve as a " Nominator" (not including the nominee).
THE FOLLOWING TWO (2) FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED BY "NOMINEE":

  1. Nominee must complete and submit a Nominee Application Form by way of an  online committee application form. 
    Please Note: Nominee's application form can be completed/submitted by the Nominee or a fellow colleague/nominator (on behalf of Nominee) and  includes an expression of interest (approximately 150 words) and a brief professional/bio sketch (approximately 150 words). Details provided inform the nominee's profile for election purposes. 

  2. Nominee must complete and submit a U of A Conflict of Interest Declaration. 
    Please Note: Any identified real or perceived conflicts of interest must be managed in accordance with relevant university policies. Assessing conflict requires the collection of personal information as defined in the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The University will conduct this and other conflict-related activities with the utmost discretion and in compliance with legislation.
    Submit COI form by Email: Conflict of Interest Declaration (COI) form (downloaded and completed) is received by University Governance. Please submit the COI (pdf) by email to  Ann.Hodgson@ualberta.ca  (GFC Nominations and Elections) prior to the application deadline.

2.0    "NOMINATOR" REQUIREMENT:  
THE FOLLOWING ONE (1) FORM MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED BY "NOMINATOR" (on behalf of the Nominee):

  1. Each of the five (5) Nominators must complete and submit an online " Nominator Support and Consent Form " prior to the application deadline.

NOMINEE MAY APPLY NOW! The completed application consists of the Nominee Application Form (submitted online), Conflict of Interest Declaration Form (sent by email) AND a Nominator Support and Consent Form (submitted online by each of the five (5) supporting Nominators)  by Friday, October 16, 2020 at 12:00 pm (Noon).  All relevant forms are also located along the right toolbar.
