Advisory Search Committee for Vice-President (Research and Innovation)
Call for Academic Staff Nominations
Applications will be accepted until Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 12:00 PM (Noon).
President Flanagan has asked that an Advisory Search Committee for the Vice-President (Research and Innovation) be struck. General Faculties Council (GFC) is asked to assist in the appointment of ONE (1) Academic Staff member, elected by the faculty and the appointed academic staff representatives on GFC to this committee.
Membership Selection Criteria
- ONE (1) Academic Staff member from Staff Categories (A1.0/D1.2) as described in the Recruitment Policy (Appendix A) Definition and Categories of Academic Staff.
- Staff who are on leave. The term ‘leave’ includes: administrative leave, sabbatical, political, medical, parental, childbirth, disability, assisted, secondment.

All employees described in Category A1.0/D1.2 who hold the administrative positions of Vice Dean, Associate Dean, Assistant Dean or Department Chair, or positions in conflict of interest such as direct reports, at the time of the initial nomination. 2021 Committee Meeting Schedule
- Start-Up Meeting 1: Friday, January 29, 2021 from 1:30 – 3 pm
- Committee Meeting 2: Friday, February 26, 2021 from 1:30 – 3 pm
- Committee Meeting 3: Monday, April 12, 2021 from 10 am – 12 pm
- Interviews: Wednesday, April 21 from 12-5 pm, Thursday, April 22 (all day) and Friday, April 23 (all day), exact times to be determined after Meeting 3.
- Second Interviews: Monday, May 3, 2021 (all day) - may not be required
Nomination and Election Process
- Applications will be accepted until Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 12:00 PM (Noon).
- It is understood that the "NOMINEE" will stand for election if multiple nominees come forward and BE SUPPORTED by five (5) academic staff members from staff categories (A1.0/D1.2) whom agree to serve as a "Nominator". (Note: the five Nominators do not include the "Nominee".)
- The completed application consists of the Nominee Application Form (submitted online), Conflict of Interest Declaration (PDF sent by email) AND five Nominator Support and Consent Forms (submitted online by each of the five (5) supporting Nominators) prior to the deadline.
Nominee & Nominator Application Steps
STEP 1A and 1B: The "NOMINEE" will:
Please Note: Nominee's application form can be completed/submitted by the Nominee or a fellow colleague/nominator (on behalf of Nominee) and includes an expression of interest (approximately 150 words) and a brief professional/bio sketch (approximately 150 words). Details provided inform the nominee's profile for election purposes.
(B) COMPLETE & SUBMIT a U of A Conflict of Interest Declaration.
Any identified real or perceived conflicts of interest must be managed in accordance with relevant university policies. Assessing conflict requires the collection of personal information as defined in the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The University will conduct this and other conflict-related activities with the utmost discretion and in compliance with legislation.
STEP 2A: Each of the five "NOMINATORS" will:
(A) COMPLETE AND SUBMIT an online Nominator Support and Consent FormPlease Note: The Nominator Support and Consent form is completed/submitted individually by each of the "FIVE" supporting Nominators on behalf of their Nominee, prior to the application deadline.
