Vacancy:

3 available positions to serve on the GSA Awards Selection Committee (GSA ASC)

How To Apply:

Nominations are to be submitted by filling out the form attached and emailing it to gsa.nomcomm@ualberta.ca in advance of the deadline of Wednesday, 14 October 2020 at 12:00 PM (Noon). Nominations received will be circulated as submitted via email to GSA Council.

There will be an electronic vote at the 19 October 2020 GSA Council meeting.


Purpose and Mandate:

The GSA ASC is responsible for selecting the recipients of the GSA Council approved GSA Recognition Awards and for reviewing GSA Bylaw and Policy on GSA Recognition Awards annually and making any recommendations to GSA Council (GSA Bylaw and Policy, Section O: GSA Recognition Awards, GSA Policy, GSA Standing Committees, GSA Awards Selection Committee, Section O.POL.5).


Eligibility:

No member of the GSA ASC is eligible to apply for GSA Recognition Awards and members must declare any conflicts of interest they may have with respect to adjudicating applications, and refrain from adjudicating those applications (GSA Bylaw and Policy, Section O: GSA Recognition Awards, GSA Policy, GSA Standing Committees, GSA Awards Selection Committee, Section O.POL.4).




Meetings:

In addition to adjudication, there are four (4) meetings per year around the time of the adjudication process. Two (2) are training meetings and two (2) are to select final award recipients. Adjudication of applications for GSA Recognition Awards occurs in February. Adjudication takes on average three (3) hours.

Composition:

The GSA ASC is composed of the GSA Vice-President External (Chair), the GSA Vice-President Student Services, and a minimum of eight (8) and up to twelve (12) GSA members elected by GSA Council as voting members. The GSA ASC Chair, in consultation with the GSA ASC Vice-Chair and the Chair of the GSA Nominating Committee, can decide to increase the number of GSA members on the GSA ASC.
