Vacancy:

2 positions of Chief Returning Officer (CRO) and Deputy Returning Officer (DRO).

How To Apply:

Nominations must be submitted in writing (using the attached forms specific to each position) to gsa.nomcomm@ualberta.ca by Wednesday, 10 June 2020 at 12:00 PM (Noon).

All nominations received will be circulated as submitted to GSA Council.




Overview of Positions from GSA Bylaw and Policy*

Speaker:

The Speaker presides over all meetings of GSA Council, and is a non-voting member of the GSA Board (GSAB). The Speaker is awarded a modest honorarium for overseeing meetings of GSA Council.

Deputy Speaker:

Assists the Speaker as needed.

CRO:

The CRO oversees all GSA elections and referenda, is a non-voting member of the GSA Elections and Referenda Committee (GSA ERC), and "must be physically present in Edmonton or surrounding areas for the duration of any GSA General Election, by-Election, and/or referendum." The CRO is awarded a modest honorarium for overseeing all GSA General Elections, by-elections, and referenda.

DRO:

Assists the CRO as needed, is a non-voting member of GSA ERC, and "must be physically present in Edmonton or surrounding areas for the duration of any GSA General Election, by-election, and/or referendum."

Meetings

Speaker:

  • GSA Council meetings take place monthly on Mondays at 6 PM.

  • A pre-Council meeting takes place on the same day at 4 PM.

  • GSAB currently meets every Wednesday from 10 AM to 12 PM (attendance is not mandatory).

Deputy Speaker:

  • GSA Council meetings take place monthly on Mondays at 6 PM.

  • A pre-Council meeting takes place on the same day at 4 PM.

CRO:

  • GSA Council meetings take place monthly on Mondays at 6 PM.

  • May be invited to a pre-Council meeting (on the same day at 4 PM).

  • GSA ERC meetings will take place regularly between October and March to assist with the 2021 GSA General Election, and as needed throughout the rest of the year.

DRO:

  • GSA Council meetings take place monthly on Mondays at 6 PM.

  • May be invited to a pre-Council meeting (on the same day at 4 PM).

  • GSA ERC meetings will take place regularly between October and March to assist with the 2021 GSA General Election, and as needed throughout the rest of the year.

Election Process:

All nominations received will be circulated as submitted via email to GSA Council for an election during the 15 June 2020 meeting of GSA Council. Nominees will be invited to deliver brief remarks to GSA Council and answer questions from members. If nominees are unable to attend and would like to address GSA Council, alternate arrangements can be made.
