2017-2018 GSA Chief Returning Officer: Darcy Bemister
"The CRO is responsible for running all GSA elections and referenda" (GSA Bylaw and Policy, Section D: GSA Officers, GSA Bylaw, GSA Officers, Section D.BYL.3.3.a).
I am a first-year PhD student in the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science, and my research is focused on wheat genetics and breeding. I am originally from Manitoba, but moved to Edmonton and completed my BSc in Agricultural Business Management at the University of Alberta. During the summer months I enjoy camping, hiking and mountain biking, and in the winter, I like to hibernate in my office and analyze phenotypic data.
Beyond my involvement with the Graduate Students’ Association, I am a member of General Faculties Council, and Academic Planning Committee. I am also the President of the Agricultural, Life, and Environmental Sciences Graduate Students’ Association. I have the privilege of being a teaching assistant for a class that is strongly aligned with my own research, and this has become one of the highlights of my PhD program.
