Graduate Student Parents

GSA Child Care Grant

  • To help offset the cost of child care for graduate students at the University of Alberta.

GSA Feeding and Care Space

  • The GSA has a private lounge for those needing a space to care for/feed infants and children. The space has soft seating, a draw down window covering for privacy, and locks from the inside. Those wishing to utilize this private lounge space to care for/feed an infant or child, are asked to notify the GSA front desk staff so they can ensure you are not disturbed. The restrooms in Triffo Hall are also outfitted with change tables. Additionally, those needing to care for/feed an infant or child are also welcome to utilize any of the GSA’s public lounge spaces in Triffo Hall.     

Parent Link (Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research) 

  • An initiative of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, Parent Link meets monthly and aims to help graduate student parents build the skills, knowledge, and mindset that will support their scholarly journey, transition into the workplace, and foster their health and well-being.

Parent Link (Government of Alberta)

  • The Government of Alberta has a network of 57 Parent Link Centres that provide parents and caregivers with free resources and support.

University of Alberta International, International Student Services

  • Information aimed at connecting international students with parenting resources

University Affiliated Child Care

  • The U of A is affiliated with six child care centres (note: these centres are not explicitly vetted or endorsed by the GSA and the GSA itself is not affiliated with them).

Child Care Look Up

  • Parents can find information about licensed child care programs and contracted family day home agencies with Alberta’s Child Care Look-Up Tool. This tool provides information about the location, ages of children served, number of children that can be served in the program, the program’s accreditation status and recent inspection results.

Edmonton Public Library

  • With local branches located all across Edmonton, the Edmonton Public Library regularly hosts a diverse array of programs for parents and children, at no cost.
