- Elnaz Nabiyi, a PhD student in the Alberta School of Business, was among the innocent victims who died on Ukrainian International Flight PS752. Elnaz was a smart and curious student, always in search of truth; she was a keen advocate of educational development. This scholarship is created by Dear Elnaz Corporation, a nonprofit organization with the mission to contribute to the educational advancement of those in need, to commemorate Elnaz and the rest of the victims of Flight PS752. The Association of Families of Flight PS752 Victims pursues justice for the innocent victims who lost their lives in the dreadful downing of the civilian airliner PS752.
- The flight was shot down by an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on January 8, 2020; all 177 people on board, many of whom had ties to Canada and the U of A, lost their lives. Canada continues to work with international partners to hold Iran accountable and to demand a full, transparent, and credible explanation of the downing.
