Graduate Student Scholarship (Master's)

The Alberta Government offers the Graduate Student Scholarship to Master’s students who are in the second year of their program. The purpose of this scholarship is to reward the outstanding academic achievement of students studying at the Master’s level.

The scholarship is administered by Student Aid Alberta in conjunction with the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGSR) at the University of Alberta, The University of Calgary, The University of Lethbridge, and Athabasca University. Students are nominated for this award by the Alberta institution where they completed their first year of Master’s studies.

    Scholarships are valued at $3,000 each.
  • Eligibility

    To be eligible an applicant must:

    • be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
    • be an Alberta resident, and to be considered an Alberta resident one of the following conditions must apply:
    - one parent must currently be residing in Alberta, or
    - Alberta is the last place the student has lived for twelve (12) consecutive months before being a full-time student, or
    - is married to an Alberta resident before the start of the qualifying year of study.
    • have completed one year of a master’s program at the University of Alberta and be enrolled in the second year of the same program
    • not receive the Arts Graduate Scholarship for the same period of study
    • have been enrolled full-time in their first year and must be continuing their studies full-time in the second year
  • Selection Criteria
    Recipients are selected based on all marks obtained in the first year of their masters program. FGSR identifies the list of nominees to the Alberta Government based on eligibility requirements and quota.
  • Application Procedures
    No application is required. Students are considered automatically.
