In 1998, the University of Alberta campus recognized that graduate students from all faculties were engaged in public outreach and the Outreach Program was created under the umbrella of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR). In 2003, the program was recognized for its Excellence in Science and Technology Public Awareness by the Alberta Science and Technology Leadership Foundation. The program continued to evolve in interdisciplinary programming, and with the growth of professional development programming, it was renamed the Community Volunteer program—CV for CV.
Today, the Community Connect (CC) Program is a hub for connecting graduate students to numerous volunteer opportunities on campus and the community. “Unlock your Research” captures the spirit of the program where students are the key to bringing this knowledge to the community.
