COP 23

Conference of Parties (COP) 23

The United Nation's annual convention on climate change (COP 23) has partnered with #Decarbonize - Decolonize 2017, a global mobilization of youth perspectives on the impacts of climate change and colonialism. This initiative brings together over 100 000 students from over 20 countries, and we are looking for graduate student mentors to help guide school participants using a "Virtual Classroom" to complete their school activities. Information will be combined into a white paper which will be presented at COP 23 in Bonn, Germany (Nov. 2017).

Expectation of Graduate Student Mentors:

  • Time expectation: End of Aug. - Nov. 17, 2017. Attend the two virtual training events (exact dates TBA). 2-4 hours a week (if mentors wanted to spend more, they would be welcome).
  • Responsibilities: provide feedback for students as they post online (ie. blogs, discussion board).
  • Writer's Retreat & Virtual Town Hall (Optional): At the end of the project, the students will have a Virtual Town Hall and a Writer’s Retreat. More information to come.

We are seeking 10-12 mentors. Please send your resume or CV with a brief explanation for your reason of involvement to Charity Slobod at cslobod@ualberta.ca.
