Secondary School Coursework

English Language Proficiency (ELP) may be met by the following language coursework at the secondary school level in the following countries:

  • Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland

Note: Departments and the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) reserve the right to require further demonstration of English Language proficiency.

Minimum Requirement

Belgium

  • Certificate of Higher Secondary Education
  • Diploma of Qualification Giving Access to Higher Education
  • A grade of 80% or better in 3rd Cycle English (Dutch/Flemish)
  • A grade of 16 or better in English (French)

Denmark

  • Upper Secondary School Leaving Examination or Higher Preparatory Examination
  • A grade of 9 or better in A level English

Finland

  • Matriculation Examination Certificate
  • A grade of 5 or better in level A1 or level A2 English language matriculation examination

Germany

  • Certificate of General University Maturity
  • A grade of Gut (2) or better in A-level English

Iceland

  • Matriculation Examination
  • A grade of 7 or better in 15 credits of English study with a Language or Social Science major, or 9 credits of English study with a Natural Science major

Luxembourg

  • Secondary School Leaving Certificate
  • A grade of 45 or better in English

Netherlands

  • University Preparatory Education (VWO) Diploma
  • A grade of 7 or better in English

Norway

  • Upper Secondary School Certificate
  • A grade of VG or better in Grade 12 English

Sweden

  • Upper Secondary School Certificate
  • A grade of 4 or better in English II (Alternative A or B)

Switzerland

  • Maturity Certificate
  • A grade of 5 or better in English
