About Us

The Health Sciences Council's (HSC) primary role is to lead and enable interprofessional education and interdisciplinary research. These two areas comprise the essential academic support for interdisciplinary excellence.

The University of Alberta offers health science programs in nine faculties to approximately 8,000 students at the pre-licensure and graduate level. HSC facilitates interdisciplinary learning, discovery and citizenship through leadership and collaboration across all health disciplines.

HSC has evolved significantly from an informal information sharing body to its current role as an academic leadership unit promoting and enabling interdisciplinary health scholarship. This approach allows faculties to maintain autonomy and develop their unique disciplinary strengths while addressing challenges and opportunities common to all.

HSC is accountable to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic).
