Become a community collaborator
U of A interprofessional health science students are looking for community organizations to partner in a community resource project. Involved organizations work with a team of University students who will retrieve or research information for the organization (or even receive documents from them) and put that information into a useful format that meets the audience's needs. Become an INT D 403 Facilitator
Do you want to inspire and educate future health professionals from different disciplines? Are you looking to share information about your profession, your background and your experiences? Become an INT D 403 facilitator! For more information email intd403.503@ualberta.ca.
Become a Patient / Family mentor
We want students to see health care through the eyes of a patient so they can provide patient-centered care in their future practice. When you share your health care experience, health sciences students grow in understanding and empathy. This experience can greatly impact their future practice. Become a Standardized Patient (SP)
A Standardized Patient (SP) is a person who has been coached to accurately and consistently recreate the history, personality, physical finding, emotional structure and response pattern of an actual patient at a particular point in time. The Standardized Patient Program utilizes standardized patients both on and off campus for teaching, demonstration, assessment, examination and video productions. Join our roster of exam contract support
HSERC manages various high stakes and large-scale competency exams including Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCEs), Objective Structured Practical Exams (OSPEs), large scale simulation events, and Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs). For each exam HSERC is in need of examiners, support staff, and standardized patients. For more information email osceadmn@ualberta.ca.
Join our roster of AV technology specialists
If you're an audiovisual technology specialist looking for part-time work and the opportunity to enhance your skills, consider getting involved with HSERC. You'll receive training to operate our specialized equipment, such as our wireless simulation mannequin iStan that sweats, bleeds, and breathes. You'll also be required to support students participating in isolated hospital and clinical simulations by filming their activities from an external control room with an observation window, and by interacting with them over a microphone. If you're an audiovisual technology specialist with an interest in healthcare technology and the desire for some part-time work, email hserc@ualberta.ca.
Professional Development Opportunities
HSERC works to support faculty members and clinical instructors from across the health sciences to integrate team competency development and/or simulation into student learning experiences. HSERC currently offers professional development workshops in facilitation and in simulation. For more information email sharla.king@ualberta.ca.
