Mask Fitting
The College of Health Sciences provides a qualitative respirator fit test for N95 respirator masks.
Before registering for a fit test, please complete the N95 Respirator Fitting Testing Form.
To book a date and time, please choose a “product” from the online store. Please use your UAlberta email account when booking.
Faculties or Programs can make a group booking by filling in this form.
If you want to cancel or re-schedule your booking, please do so at least 48 hours in advance. An appointment can only be re-scheduled once.

Prior to coming to your appointment, please ensure that you
- Are clean-shaven. Reference Chart
- Do not eat, drink (except water), smoke, vape, chew gum within 20 minutes of the appointment.
Please arrive 15 minutes in advance of your appointment time with:
- A copy of your receipt
- OneCard or any government-issued photo ID
- A bottle of water to rinse your mouth
The student will be tested with a respirator facepiece and bitter/sweet nebulizer. During the test, the student will also learn to put on and take off the mask and conduct seal checks.
An appointment usually takes 15-20 minutes.
We are currently fit testing the 3M 1804, 3M 1860, 3M 1860s & 3M 1870+ respirators.
Upon successful completion, the student will receive a certificate that is valid for up to two years or when major physical changes occur such as gaining/losing weight, pregnancy, facial or dental surgery.
