Undergraduate Awards Highly Commended Entrant

Our undergraduate student and History major, Eve Thompson, has been shortlisted for the Undergraduate Awards for best undergraduate paper; written for Susan Smith's HIST 497, winter 2015. Congratulations Eve! Well deserved!

Susan Smith reports:

"One of the students from my history seminar in Winter 2015 is on the shortlist of an international competition for best undergraduate paper. She wrote it for my course, HIST 497-"History of Women and Health." They are flying her and the other finalists to Dublin where the winners will be selected. This is a great honor for our history major, Eve Thompson."

The letter to Eve stated that:

"I want to congratulate you on this fantastic achievement. As a Highly Commended Entrant in The Undergraduate Awards, you have been identified as an outstanding academic at the international level. This year, we received 5,117 submissions from students in 255 universities across 39 countries. Your paper, entitled "The Henry Street Settlement and the Victorian Order of Nurses: Authority, Gender, and Class in the Visiting Nurse Profession", made it to the top 10% of all submissions in our History category, representing University of Alberta, as assessed by a panel of academics from universities around the world."
