This Fall! Contemporary France

Is Europe falling apart? France has been a key leader in European integration since 1945. French history since 1914 engages issues critical to understanding twentieth-century Europe and the challenges facing the European Union today (immigration, terrorism, and the rise of the radical right). France has also had a major global influence in intellectual and cultural life, especially in the fields of philosophy, literature, visual arts and film (the photo is François Truffaut at work). HIST 306 covers key dynamics for change in French political, social and cultural history in their European context, including the world wars and decolonization.
