INT D 325 A1 - Topics in Interdisciplinary Studies *3 (3-0-0)

Transnational Networks of the Entertainment Industry (1900-1939) From Budapest to Hollywood

**Featuring Visiting Speaker from Hungary

The course examines the cultural transfer techniques of the Paramount Film Studio, with special emphasis on its offices in Budapest, Paris, Berlin and Vienna. Using an interdisciplinary approach (movies, autobiographies, transcultural tour histories of entertainment products) we will examine the operational techniques within the transnational art world (cooperation, rivalry with circus and variety companies, marketing strategies, and handling of political and cultural conflicts).  The course will concentrate on the agents of cultural transfer (e.g. the Hungarian born president of Paramount, Adolph Zukor) producers, directors, stars and on their border-crossing lifestyle

*Featuring visiting professor from Hungary, Dr. Gyongyi Heltai.
