Nihil desperandum

Students in History and Classics concerned by recent news stories about suspending two Classics majors need not be alarmed.

17 September 2013

Students in History and Classics concerned by recent news stories about suspending two Classics majors need not be alarmed. Classical languages are a fundamental part of our Classics program and will continue to be available for all interested students, whether their interest is in expanding their command of English, reading the ancient authors for personal fulfilment, or continuing on to graduate school in Classics. The two suspended majors, Combined Classics/Greek/Latin and Classical Language, will continue for students already enrolled. New students who want to include study of the languages will be able to take our revised Classics major, "Classics and Classical Languages". Students who want to study the Classics without the languages can still major in "Classical Studies". There is no change in the availability of our courses in Greek and Latin.
