Please welcome to the Department our new postdoctoral fellows Ben Bradley and Sara Komarnisky. Brad will start here on 1 May, working with Ian MacLaren, and Sara on 1 June, working with Beverly Lemire.

BEN BRADLEY

Appointment: Postdoctoral Fellow (May 1, 2015 - April 30, 2016)
Supervisor: Ian MacLaren
Research Activities:
Ben will conduct research on the environmental history of highway modernization in the Canadian Rockies from 1955 to 1970. What links these projects is a concern for how the practices, techniques, and material infrastucture of mobility have shaped (and reshaped) Canada's diverse landscapes and natural environments as well as their place in Canadians' imaginations.

SARA KOMARNISKY

Appointment: Postdoctoral Fellow (June 1, 2015 - May 31, 2016)
Supervisor: Beverly Lemire
Research Activities:
Sara Komarnisky will conduct original research related to our SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, "Object Lives & Global Histories in Northern North America." She will research the production, meanings and circulation of objects created at TB Hospitals by indigenous residents in these hospitals, goods subsequently collected in various Canadian museums. She will explore the meanings of these goods to indigenous communities, including possibly some surviving family members. She will also prepare several case studies for inclusion on our Object Lives website as part of a virtual exhibition. She will also assist in the realization of project goals through collaborative activities with the group, including participation in the final Edmonton symposium and in the final edited collection.
