It is with sadness that we relay the news of the passing of Professor John Herd Thompson, who died on July 13 in British Columbia. Dr. Thompson, a distinguished historian of western Canada, spent most of his career at Duke University, but was visiting professor in History and Classics from 1997 to 2000. He retired from Duke in 2012.
An obituary appeared in The Globe and Mail in early August, and there is a tribute to him on the Duke website also.
