Professional Development and Career Mobility for Support Staff

Objective 3 of "For the Public Good" describes the university's aim to support recruitment and retention of a highly skilled, diverse community of non-academic and administrative staff by enriching the University of Alberta's working environment. Creating pathways for career mobility and progression of non- academic, administrative, and academic staff members are described as a key strategy to accomplish the objective. Human Resource Services (HRS) is pleased to be involved in supporting For the Public Good Objective 3 via the LOU Committee on Career Progression and Mobility for Support Staff (LOU Committee).

The LOU Committee, with representation from the employer and the Non-Academic Staff Association, was struck as a result and the 2016-2019 Letter of Understanding with NASA: Enriching Professional Development and Creating Pathways for Career Mobility. In collaboration and consultation with stakeholders across the university, including the Objective 15 Working Group, the LOU Committee is building a business case to recommend methods to sustainably operationalize the strategies identified in the Letter of Understanding and Objective 3 of For the Public Good.

Sponsored by the Director of the Non-Academic Staff Association and the Director of HRS Organizational Development, Equity and Health, the LOU Committee is consulting with and engaging support staff and those who support them, service providers of professional development and other key stakeholders in the development of the business case.
