Update for hiring support staff positions

New considerations in the posting for support staff positions.

In light of our budget and reduced Campus Alberta Grant, the university must remain vigilant in only hiring and posting positions that are critical to the university. In addition to the hiring controls implemented in July 2020, the Executive team has endorsed additional considerations in the posting for support staff positions.

To support the retention of experienced university support staff, support staff hiring panels are being asked to consider internal candidates or those recently disrupted first.

  • Career postings for support staff positions should include one of the following statements going forward:
    Postings for non-technical or administrative based roles: “This competition is restricted to internal candidates or applicants who were former employees of the University of Alberta in the past 18 months.”
  • Postings for other roles: “This competition is open to all applicants, however internal candidates and applicants who were former employees of the University of Alberta in the past 18 months will be given priority consideration before external candidates.

Please include one of the two statements on postings entered into the Recruitment and Advertising Database (RAD) as appropriate.
