Holiday Pay

Paid Holidays are the actual days these holidays fall on:

  • New Year's Day
  • Alberta Family Day
  • Good Friday
  • Easter Monday
  • Victoria Day
  • Canada Day
  • Heritage Day (civic holiday)
  • Labour Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Remembrance Day
  • Christmas Day

Where a paid holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the paid holiday will be observed on the following Monday. These are considered 'Designated Paid Days Off' and are treated as a 'Rest Day' under the terms of the Collective Agreement. Visit Statutory Holidays and Winter Closure for this years' dates.

Department Responsibilities: Holiday Pay

The department will have to determine whether an employee qualifies for holiday pay. In doing so, the department will determine the following;

  • regular day of work
  • regular days pay

For all Operating Funded Support Staff:

(Paid Holiday and Meal Allowance and Breaks)

Working on a Holiday

Meal allowances and breaks are not applicable when the employee works on the statutory holiday.

Working on the Designated Day Off

Treated as a Rest Day and the OT rates plus meal allowance and breaks apply.
