Your First Week as a New Employee

Getting more familiar with the requirements of your new position? It's time to take the next steps.

  1. Take the required training for your position.
  2. Plan for development
    1. Meet with your supervisor to discuss your development plan.
  3. Begin meeting with your onboarding peer coach regularly.
  4. Establish relationships.
    1. Meet your colleagues and peers that you work with indirectly.
    2. Establish working networks within and beyond your unit.
  5. Ask any questions you have about your role, work, and team.
  6. Familiarize yourself with important policies and guidelines and get set up to receive important information and communications relevant to your role. See What You Need to Know and Employment Information pages for more details.
  7. Learn about the new university operating model and where your role fits within it. Watch the University of Alberta for Tomorrow (UAT) introduction video and read through the UAT website.
