Beneficiary Changes

Insurance

You are automatically the beneficiary for:

  • Basic and Optional Employee and/or Spouse Critical Illness
  • Optional Dependent Life insurance

You may elect whomever you wish as your beneficiary(ies) for:

  • Basic and Optional Employee Life
  • Basic and Optional Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D)

You can designate or change your beneficiaries at any time by accessing Employee Self Service. If you have updated or added a beneficiary through self service, please submit a signed Designation of Beneficiary and Optional AD&D forms to Shared Services via the Staff Service Centre.

Claims will be paid in accordance with the most recent beneficiary forms or self-service designations on file. In the absence of a designated beneficiary, claims will be paid to the estate.

Pension

Your married spouse or common-law spouse (if you have cohabited for a period greater than three years) is by law your pension beneficiary. However, you may designate whomever you wish as contingent beneficiaries.

Public Service Pension Plan 

Your Pension Profile (YPP) is a secure, online portal for all Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP) members. The portal is the only way you can designate or update your beneficiary or beneficiaries paper forms are no longer accepted. To use YPP, first register for your account. For any questions, call PSPP Member and Pension Inquiries at 1-877-453-1777.

University Academic Pension Plan

If you are an active member, your designated beneficiary information is maintained by Shared Services. The University Academic Pension Plan (UAPP) Designation of Spouse and Non-Spouse and Beneficiary Change forms are available at UAPP . Submit completed forms through the Staff Service Centre.
