Administering pay during university closure in observance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

While most employees will receive this day off with pay, there are additional guidelines for casual support staff and employees who are required to work.

14 September 2021

As previously announced, the University of Alberta will be closed for regular operations in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, 2021. All salaried employees, including academic staff, management and professional staff and support staff, will receive this day off with pay.

Casual support staff will not be paid for this day unless it falls on a normal work day.

If an employee is required to work on the day of the closure and is eligible to receive another day off in lieu, the employee and supervisor must mutually agree on when the employee should take their lieu time.

Shared Services has published pay guidelines related to the application of the closure day. Refer to the Closure Day Pay Guidelines for specific processing and time entry information for each employee type.
