Dr. Catherine Field is Co-Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board and Professor in the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science; an Adjunct in the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and is Co-Director of the Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta (CRINA). Her research program centers on the effect of nutrition on the immune system and this involves collaborations with researchers interested in the immune effects of natural health products. Current research focuses on establishing the role of polyunsaturated fats and choline on the development of the immune system; exploring the use of bioactive lipids in the prevention and treatment of cancer; and finding the efficacy and mechanisms by which dietary n-3 fatty acids can improve the efficacy of chemotherapy in breast cancer. She is Co-PI for the Alberta Pregnancy and Nutrition cohort that is studying the association between nutritional intake and status with maternal mental health and the neuro-physical development of infants.
