Our on-line application portal opens on September 15 to accept applications for the following academic year. Please note that there is a $100 (CDN) application fee.

The deadline to apply for the Religious Studies PhD and MA programs is February 1.
It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all documents are uploaded on time. To meet respective deadlines, we strongly encourage you to have all of your documents ready to upload at the time that you access your on-line application. No action will be taken on applications until all documents have been uploaded and the application fee ($100 Cdn) has been paid.

The Program in Religious Studies and related faculty members currently have research strength to supervise graduate-level study in many topics. Please do not apply to the program unless, in communication with the Program Director & Graduate Coordinator, you have identified a potential supervisor. Areas of particular strength include:
- Ancient and medieval Hinduism; yoga and medical traditions in India
- Islam (Medieval Islam; Islamic law; contemporary Islamic politics; contemporary Muslim cultures of North and West Africa)
- East Asian Buddhism, Japanese Buddhism

- Religion and the arts
Ethics Training Requirements
Ethics and academic integrity training is mandatory for all newly-admitted U of A graduate students who started their degree program on or after September 1, 2004. For information about the requirements, see the FGSR website.
