I-Work! Skills for Cross-Cultural Employment

Build the skills you need to gain and maintain employment in Canada! 

I-Work! is a series of workshops and events related to career development for international students. Workshops or events occur every month, September to February and a full-day career conference in March!

The workshop series and the one-day career conference are open to all undergraduate and graduate international students. Attend the workshops and a one-day conference to improve your skills and knowledge to work in Canada. 

Students have the opportunity to learn how to: 

  • Enhance interview skills
  • Find Canadian jobs
  • Understand Canada's hiring practices
  • Use LinkedIn
  • Prepare for a job interview by participating in a mock interview exercise.

Prepare Yourself for a Virtual Career Fair
Tuesday, September 29, 2020

Careers Day 2020 is Oct 7 and 8, 2020. It is UAlberta's largest career event of the year. Do you know how to prepare for this virtual Career Fair? What to expect? Don't waste your time at the Career Fair asking, "Are you hiring?" questions.  The Career Fair is not about dropping off resumes and asking for a job; it is to learn about different companies and connect to potential employers.

Attend this workshop to learn: how to prepare and attend a virtual career fair, how to connect with employers during the fair, and how to follow up with potential employers.

This workshop is offered in two parts and introduces Cover Letter and Resume techniques. The workshops identify the essential elements and different styles of Canadian Resumes and Cover letters. 

Each session guides you through creating your resume and cover letter to demonstrate your qualifications to potential employers. 

Part one focuses on different resume styles, supplied with templates and samples. 

Part two focuses on writing a compelling cover letter, how to submit an application and follow-up with an employer.
