From its beginnings in 1908 in the City of Strathcona (now part of Edmonton), the University of Alberta has grown massively. During its first year, the University of Alberta had only 4 or 5 professors and less than 50 students. Today, it now has over 35,000 students and over 2500 faculty members.

GUBA and Patches, the UAlberta mascots

University of Alberta's Mascots

There are two sports mascots at the University of Alberta - GUBA (an acronym for Great University Bear of Alberta), the mascot for the Golden Bears, the men's athletic team, and Patches mascot for the Pandas, the women's athletic teams.

You'll be able to see these mascots at games of UAlberta's varsity sports teams or some other campus events.

Green and gold day pep rallies!

UAlberta Students on Green and Gold Day

Green and Gold Day

Every fall is Green and Gold Day, UAlberta's premier school spirit event. Participate in fun activities, watch the parade, or show your school pride by wearing green and gold around campus.

The finale of your journey at the University of Alberta will be marked by convocation when you're presented with your degree. It'll be a fantastic day; and an excellent time to bring your friends and family to the University of Alberta.
