What to do 14 Days Before You Travel

Important Update

Quarantine Plan Requirement

International students who are under the age of 18 years and are not fully vaccinated must have a suitable quarantine plan approved by the institution.

These students should submit their quarantine plan to isolationoffcampus@ualberta.ca for approval at least one week prior to their arrival in Canada and register their travel plans on the Off-Campus Isolation and Travel Registry.

Monitor Yourself for Symptoms

UAlberta International recommends, 14 days before you depart, limit your interactions with others to minimize your risk of developing symptoms before travelling to Canada.

Before going to the airport, we recommend you conduct a self-assessment of your health. Take the Alberta Health Services Self-Assessment.

We suggest reviewing the list of symptoms and to consider in the past 14 days, were you in close contact with someone who was confirmed to have COVID? Did you travel to an area where COVID was prevalent? Or have you experienced any of the stated symptoms in the past 14 days before your travel date? If you respond "yes" to these questions, we recommend you cancel your travel plan.

Pre-Entry COVID Test Requirement

As of April 1, 2022, fully vaccinated travellers are no longer required to provide a pre-entry test. As of April 25, 2022, unvaccinated and partially vaccinated children aged 5-11 are not required to complete a pre-entry COVID-19 test for entry to Canada if they are accompanying a fully vaccinated adult (parent, step-parent, guardian or tutor).

Enter the Required Information Using ArriveCAN

ArriveCAN is available as a mobile app, or you can sign in online. You can download the ArriveCAN app to your Android or IOS smartphone and you must enter your travel information in ArriveCAN at least 72 hours prior to your arrival in Canada.

The Canadian Government requires you to use the ArriveCAN app to submit your:

  • Travel and contact information
  • Quarantine plan information (if applicable)
  • COVID-19 symptom self-assessments
  • Vaccination status
Once you enter your information, you get an ArriveCAN receipt to show to the Canadian Border Services (CBSA) Officer upon entry. If you use the ArriveCAN online option, take a screenshot or print your confirmation to show the CBSA Officer.

Travellers must use ArriveCAN to provide mandatory information before entering Canada. Learn more.
