What to Expect Upon Arrival

When you first enter Canada at the airport, you must:

  • show your ArriveCAN receipt to the Canadian Border Services (CBSA) Officer. If you don't, you can expect to face additional delays for public health questioning and be subject to enforcement action.
  • If you are under 18 years of age and you don’t qualify as a fully vaccinated traveller, you must present a suitable quarantine plan. If this applies to you, please register your quarantine plan through the Off-Campus Isolation and Travel Registry (OCITR) to get your quarantine plan approved. We recommend doing this once your flight is booked and at least one week before leaving your home country.

All open Port of Entry (POE) airports have a public health officer and do health screening:

If a traveller is deemed symptomatic by the public health officer at the POE airports, you will not be permitted to travel to Edmonton. The officer will determine the next steps, which may include returning to your home country.

After Entry to Canada

Approved travellers can continue to their final destination. You will be informed whether or not you are required to quarantine based on your vaccination status.

Students who are required to quarantine can do so either in the POE city or their final destination.

If you are instructed to quarantine by the CBSA officer at the airport, you must use ArriveCan or call 1-833-641-0343 to:

  • confirm you've arrived at the address provided in your quarantine plan within 48 hours of entering Canada
  • complete daily COVID-19 symptoms self-assessments during your quarantine period
