On June 6, 2019, hundreds gathered on the legislative grounds to rally against conversion therapy and to implore that the provincial government reinstate the conversion therapy working group which was disbanded earlier in the month. Dr. Glynnis Lieb, was among the many speakers who spoke at the rally. Here is an excerpt from her powerful speech:
"We have heard a lot of platitudes from this government but actions speak louder than words. We cannot accept a government who made our community cannon fodder leading up to this election. We cannot accept a government that welcomes candidates with shaky histories regarding human rights. We cannot accept a government that says they support human rights but start right out of the gates by attacking protections that marginalized people have. We cannot accept a government that says that they support how we live but is softening legislation that interfere with our right to live freely and safely.
We need to talk. We are willing to talk and we are willing to have these conversations. But if this government will not have these conversations, we are going to continue to be out in the streets because we know what's at stake here. We can't allow the work of those who fought so valiantly before us to be undone and we can't let our kids keep dying."
