fYrefly in Schools

Supporting Queer Students is an interactive workshop that combines experiential learning, audio and video, and a traditional lecture. These various forms of media will help us understand what sexual and gender diversity is, and how we might best support students that are 2SLGBTQ+. Session participants will engage with terminology, GSA/QSA Legislation, pronoun practices, and more. The interactive components of this workshop will take the form of case studies, where pre-service teachers may tackle real life scenarios that have taken place in Alberta.

Participants will leave with the skills to best support people of diverse genders and sexual orientations, as well as a helpful list of community organizations that support LGBTQ2S+ people.

This workshop is recommended for pre-service teachers, teachers, members of the education students association, and community members that are interested in learning about GSA legislation in regards to schools.
