Michael van Manen part of UofA team of experts discusses: eight things you need to know about the worldwide hunt for COVID-19 vaccine

Michael van Manen, director of the John Dossetor Health Ethics Centre and Endowed Chair of Health Ethics emphasizes the need to encourage public dialogue around "challenge trials" and who would be first to receive a vaccine against COVID-19. If inoculation became mandatory and not enough people were willing to step up voluntarily, Michael suggests that such a public policy discussion would have to balance the principle of minimizing government intrusion into people’s lives and respecting what could be legitimate safety concerns against the risk to the community.
