Join us for the Recreation Forum 2018 - June 15, 2018


The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta invites professionals for a one-day professional-development forum where you will have the opportunity to:

  • learn and share best practices to enhance programs and services
  • engage in discussions on topics such as inclusion, risk management, and leadership
  • connect with others in the fields or recreation, sport and health
  • learn more about Faculty programs, certificates and services

Costs:

Registration costs include; registration to the forum, parking pass, delegate bag, coffee/tea, lunch, facility tour and a light reception and networking event.

Keynote Speaker:

Janelle Janis, Event Attraction Strategist with the City of Edmonton

Topic: A Lasting Impact - The social and economical impacts of hosting/bidding on sporting events

Janelle is a proud University of Alberta alumni, receiving her Bachelor of Commerce as an Academic All-Canadian while playing Pandas Soccer. She is currently obtaining her MBA part time at the University of Alberta School of Business, specializing in Public Policy and Management.

Janelle began her sport business career in event marketing and operations with FC Edmonton, the local men’s professional soccer team. In 2013, she became the Marketing Manager for both the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Building on this experience, Janelle followed her passion for sport events to Edmonton Tourism where she served as Event Attraction Manager working to bring major sport and cultural events to the city. Having contributed to attracting numerous events to the city such as the 2018 RedBull Crashed Ice, the 2018 Grey Cup and the 2020 ITU Grand Final, Janelle recently transitioned to the City of Edmonton, where she helps lead their new Event Strategy section as the Event Attraction Strategist.

In 2016, Janelle was a guest speaker and panelist at the Smart Cities and Sport Summit in Lausanne, Switzerland, the keynote speaker at the 2017 UEFA Women’s Championship Symposium in Utrecht, Netherlands and a facilitator at the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance Sport Event Congress this year in Halifax. She is a former board member of Alberta Soccer’s Development of Women in Soccer Committee, current President of the University of Alberta Pandas Soccer Alumni Society, member of the University of Alberta Green and Gold Athletics Society as well as a board member of the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance and Works for Women. She resides in Edmonton, Alberta.
