Re-opening Questions - August 2020

What you need to know when using our facilities during our reopening

PLEASE REMEMBER

Stay home if you have a fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, or shortness of breath or if you are a close contact of a person who tested positive for COVID-19 or has returned to Canada from an outside country within the last 14 days.

How do I enter the facility?
There is a designated entrance and exit. Please look for directional signage to ensure you are adhering to the physical distancing that has been put in place.
What are the operational hours for facilities (After reopening)?
Van Vliet Complex, Hanson Fitness & Lifestyle Centre, Customer Service Centre (North Campus), and Facility Services
  • Monday to Friday: 7AM - 8PM
  • Saturday & Sunday: 9AM - 4PM

North Campus: Aquatics Centre, Clare Drake Arena, Pavilion, Gymnasiums, and Studio Spaces

Variable drop-in hours and rental use available. Please check our website for up to date schedules.


Wilson Climbing Centre 

Variable drop-in hours and rental use available - Aug 17.

  • Monday to Friday: 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday: 12:15 PM - 5:00 PM

Saville Community Sports Centre (East - Opening Sept 1), Foote Field, and Customer Service Centre (South Campus)
  • Monday to Friday: 7 AM - 10 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday: 9 AM - 6 PM

Saville Community Sports Centre (West - Opening Aug 10 for Gymnasium rentals only)
  • Monday to Friday: 7 AM - 10 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday: 9 AM - 6 PM
What to expect when entering the facility? (Screening Questions)

Every patron will be asked a set of pre-screening questions before being able to access the HFLC/PA spaces.

Screening Questions: 

Does the attendee have any new-onset (or worsening) of any of the following symptoms?
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of Breath / Difficulty Breathing
  • Sore Throat
  • Chills
  • Painful Swallowing
  • Runny Nose / Nasal Congestion
  • Feeling Unwell / Fatigued
  • Nausea / Vomiting / Diarrhea
  • Unexplained loss of appetite
  • Loss of sense of taste or smell
  • Muscle / Joint Aches
  • Headache
  • Conjunctivitis

Has the attendee travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days?

Has the attendee had close contact* with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days?

Has the attendee had close contact with a symptomatic** close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days?

* Face-to-face contact within 2 metres. A health care worker in an occupational setting wearing the recommended personal protective equipment is not considered to be a close contact.
** ‘Ill/symptomatic’ means someone with COVID-19 symptoms on the list above.


There will be directional signage and floor decals throughout the facility so please follow.

How do I sign up for fitness centre access, aquatics centre, or climbing centre access?
Drop-in use of the aquatics, climbing and fitness centre is prohibited. Instead, patrons will need to book an appointment to use the facilities. Appointment booking is available online: www.activityreg.ualberta.ca
How do I book a squash court?
Squash courts will not be opened until further notice. More info to come.
Do I need a mask? Where can I get one?

Masks are required in all common areas inside the facilities. This includes arriving and departing. Masks are not required during physical activity (using the pool, fitness centre, etc).

Masks WILL NOT be provided at our facilities. Please come prepared with your own.

Will hand sanitizer be provided?
There will be hand sanitizing stations throughout the facility. 
How are you cleaning the spaces?

Touchpoint Cleaning will be done after every rental.

We also will be touchpoint cleaning and monitoring on a regular schedule in all common areas.

Pin pads etc will be cleaned after every use.

What do I do if I start to feel ill?

If you feel ill, please follow the University's rapid response plan.

Who's responsible for cleaning the fitness equipment?
Our staff will be cleaning the equipment regularly, but patrons will be expected to wipe down equipment before and after use. Towels and spray bottles will be provided to patrons when they check-in at the fitness centre.
Do I need my own water bottle?
The water fountains will have bottle filling only. The mouthpiece will be disabled so please remember your water bottle.
What type of cleaner are you using?

Please contact Customer Service for information on the cleaners and disinfectants we use in our facilities.

Will you have someone monitoring physical distancing and equipment cleaning?

Our staff will be regularly monitoring the facilities.

  • Signage/video reminders are placed around the facility,  and scheduled appointments to use our facilities will minimize numbers in common areas.
