Access

All users of the Hanson Fitness and Lifestyle Centre require a University of Alberta ONEcard or Van Vliet Complex Membership card (swipe card) to gain access to the Centre.
  • Students, faculty members, staff and alumni obtain their Onecard from the ONEcard Office on Campus
  • Members of the public may purchase Van Vliet Complex Membership card from the Facility Services Desk located on the lower level of the Van Vliet Complex.
  • Drop in and weekly users are issued temporary Van Vliet Complex membership cards from Facility Services Desk located on the lower level of the Van Vliet Complex.

Who has access to the Hanson Fitness and Lifestyle Centre:

  • Current University of Alberta students who have paid the Athletic and Recreation fee have access to all the amenities in the Van Vliet Complex, including the Hanson Fitness and Lifestyle Centre (Hanson FLC) for the term(s) listed on their registration.
  • If a student does not pay the Athletic and Recreation fee for the Spring or Summer term (i.e. they are not registered in any Spring or Summer classes), access to the Hanson Fitness and Lifestyle Centre may be purchased at the Facility Services Desk.   • Members of the public may purchase a Van Vliet Complex Membership to access the Hanson Fitness and Lifestyle Centre. A government issued ID is required to purchase a membership. 
  • Members of the AASUA and NASA unions receive access to the Hanson Fitness and Lifestyle Centre as part of their respective collective bargaining agreements.
  • Access to the Hanson Fitness and Lifestyle Centre is restricted to persons 18 years of age and older, or those involved in a supervised, sanctioned program. Dependents aged 16-17 may use the Fitness Centre under direct adult supervision. 
  • Personal trainers who are not employed by the Hanson Fitness and Lifestyle Centre are not permitted to work with clients in the Centre.
