University of Otago

University of Otago is New Zealand's oldest university and a top-ranked research institution. Otago has extensive facilities; including a theatre, concert hall, gymnasium, audiovisual center and information services center. It is the second southernmost university in the world with easy access to spectacular scenery and amazing recreation opportunities. The University of Otago also has an active student association and many societies and clubs for cultural, athletic, political and academic interests.

This is an exchange that is available for student in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation and Augustana Campus students with a major in Physical Education.

  • Applicable Courses
    University of Otago offers a variety of courses (papers) in recreation, sport, and exercise science. Each semester is divided into Semester 1 (February-June) and Semester 2 (July-November). It is the individual's responsibility to research the programs and courses, and to contact an advisor when program planning.

    The University of Otago offers courses to exchange students in the following areas:

  • Cost Breakdown
    As a University of Alberta student, you will pay tuition to the University of Alberta equivalent to 15* per semester. There is a $250 application fee for this program which you pay to University of Alberta International.

    University of Alberta International offers an Education Abroad Individual Award for students studying abroad three weeks or longer. This award ranges from $750-$3,750 depending on the duration of the program. The deadline for this award is annually in January or February.

    NOTE: Students should start looking at applying in late November/early December to give enough time for the process.

    Have you finished your research and figured out where you want to go?

    Then get ready to apply for your abroad experience!

    Final application deadlines run from December through March for programs running in summer and next academic year, but you need to start your application much earlier.

  • Requirements
    1. Be a current student in the Faculty 
    2. GPA requirements – Minimum GPA requirement for exchange is 2.7 in most recent semester and 2.5 overall (minimum). (NOTE: a higher GPA may be required to be competitive depending on the applicant pool each year).
    3. Must have completed at least 18-30 credits (2 terms of full-time status) at UAlberta before going abroad.
    4. Applicants must be registered as a full-time U of A student with at least 3* credits remaining in their degree.
